What is scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a condition of abnormal curvature in the spine. In this condition there is a three-dimensional deviation of the column, that is, a lateral deviation that at the same time also presents a rotation or torsion. The lateral deviation, characteristic of a spine with scoliosis, can be S or C-shaped, that is, the scoliosis can be one-curved or double-curved. The deviation mainly affects the dorsal and lumbar region, although it can also affect the cervical spine.

Commonly, scoliosis is diagnosed during childhood or adolescence. Lateral deviation and vertebral rotation usually get worse during growth. This phase is the most important because is it better to start treatment the younger a patient is. The younger the patients, the better the results are during the treatment.
